SUPERLATIVE SUNDAY!
SUPERLATIVE SUNDAY!

The third and final day of the revamped Donington Historic Festival maintained the momentum of the previous two days - outstanding historic racing, spectacular track demos and an all-round thoroughly good time had by all concerned, whether they were spectating or competing.
Touring car fans were particularly spoiled today, with tin-tops featuring heavily on the menu. Race action started with Motor Racing Legends' Historic Touring Car Challenge with Tony Dron Trophy, which saw the grid packed with 1970s and 80s touring cars. Jonathan Bailey and Andy Middlehurst took the overall and HTCC win in Jonathan's potent Kyoseki Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R, ahead of Darren Fielding in a BMW E30 M3 and the Ford Capri of Steve Dance. Tony Dron Trophy victory went to Raphael De Borman, in a Capri 3.0S.
Next up was the second of two fabulous Motor Racing Legends GT3 Legends races we've been treated to this weekend. This new series has instantly captured the hearts of the crowds here at Donington Park, with some serious racing keeping us all on the edge of our seats. Yesterday's race winner, Jonathan Mitchell, repeated his success in the glorious, Prodrive-built Aston Martin V12 Vantage - race number 007. Saturday's third-place finisher Christian Albrecht improved on that result, his McLaren MP4 12C taking second place, while Max Lynn finished third in the Nissan Skyline GTR.
The final of three Superformance Ferrari Club Classic races came next, the result being a juggling of those from the previous two days. Wayne Marrs doubled down on his Saturday's win, with fellow F355 Challenge driver Tristan Simpson taking his second second-place in three days, while Colin Sowter repeated Friday's third-place finish in his F355 Spyder.
Sunday was the day that the HRDC 'circus' came to town, bringing with it their enormously entertaining grids. First up was the HRDC Gerry Marshall Trophy Series, where the Jaguar XJS of Simon Lewis - sharing the driving with 2016 European Le Mans Series champion Alex Brundle - took the chequered flag 2.9 seconds ahead of Michael Whitaker Jnr in his Sanyo ROVER SDI. John Young and Jack Young drove their Richard Lloyd-built Chevrolet Camaro into third place.
Another HRDC race followed - this time a packed grid of touring cars for the Jack Sears Trophy. After an eventful 45 minutes, which resulted in a few cars being recovered after some unplanned off-track activity, three Lotus Cortinas took the top places. Peter Smith and Harri Reynolds emerged victorious, ahead of Jake Giddings/Paul Struther, followed by Richard Dutton.
The beautiful Fifties sports car racers of Motor Racing Legends' Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy and Stirling Moss Trophy then took to the track in a stunning display of grace, elegance and hard-fought racing. Overall victory and the Stirling Moss Trophy win went to Olly Bryant and Kyle Tilley in a Lotus XV. Will Nuthall finished second in a Lister Knobbly, with Ollie Crosthwaite and Nick Finburgh in a Cooper Monaco T49. Woodcote Trophy honours went to Frederic Wakeman and Patrick Blakeney-Edwards in a Cooper T38.
The 2025 Donington Historic Festival came to a close in entertaining style, with the combined HRDC Dunlop Allstars and HRDC Classic Alfa Challenge race. The 'Allstars' victory went to Mike Whitaker Snr in a TVR Griffith, followed by another TVR Griffith - this one driven by John Spiers - with Sam Tordoff third in a Ford Falcon. Top finisher for the Alfas was Ben Colburn in a GTAm Superformance.
