GRID IN FOCUS: FJHRA ‘Silverline’ Championship

Qualifying: 09:05 and 10:10 Friday, 2 May. Races: 14:20 and 15:55 Friday, 2 May
If you're a single-seater fan, head to the first day of DHF 2025, and you can thoroughly enjoy the return of those perennial crowd-pleasers, the historic Formula Juniors. Just three years after this starter formula, which was designed to encourage Italian drivers back into Grand Prix cars, was launched in 1958, it had become the feeder formula direct into Formula One, with races across five continents. As such it played a pivotal role in the careers of such racing greats as Jim Clark, John Surtees, Denny Hulme and Jochen Rindt.
DHF 2025 sees two FJHRA ‘Silverline’ Championship grids take to the track, a testament to the size of the entry. Divided into front-engine and rear-engine grids, these promise to be highly entertaining, and these nimble little machines are always a popular spectacle.
In the front-engine grid, the man to beat will be Ray Mallock in his U2 MK2, designed and built by his father Arthur. Adrian Russell (Condor S II) and Adrian Holey (Terrier Mk 4 Series 2), will be giving chase, as will Mark Woodhouse in his Elva 100. In the rear-engine grid, hot from his second place at the Goodwood Members Meeting will be Alex Ames in his Brabham BT6. He’s likely to have less company up front, but there’s sure to be a gaggle of drivers behind, hungry to take the remaining two podium spots.
